Language Access and Cultural Competency Plan

LACC 2025 Plan

SARC LACC Plan aims to foster community engagement and enhance information and service delivery through a multi-faceted approach. We will produce informative podcasts and establish monthly parent resource and support groups tailored to these communities' unique needs. Additionally, we will organize a comprehensive conference celebrating diverse cultures, including Filipino, African-American, Vietnamese, Spanish-speaking, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHOH), and LGBTQ identities, while also supporting local leaders from PANSEC and Mariposa's parent groups in their initiatives. Our outreach efforts will involve active participation in community resource fairs and events like Disability Awareness Day to promote awareness and access to services. To further improve accessibility, we will develop a user-friendly mobile application and redesign SARC's website, ensuring families can easily navigate available resources. We are committed to allocating funds to Community-Based Organizations that engage with diverse populations and strengthening our internal capabilities by hiring dedicated staff, including a Diversity & Inclusion Manager, Grant Coordinator, Parent Education Coordinator, and Community Engagement Coordinator. Furthermore, we will invest in cultural competency training to guarantee that our services are respectful and responsive to the cultural values of the communities we serve.

PAST PLAN

Project Summary: SARC will increase access to services to those individuals/families with specific language needs. Cultural needs will be assessed at least once/month to ensure proper attention is given to historically underserved communities. New positions will include a parent education coordinator, community events coordinator, language specialist, administrative assistant, and a technology consultant. Outreach education efforts will be enhanced both virtually and in-person by consulting with stakeholders including individuals/families served, Disparity Task Force, Community Based Organizations, and Family Resource Centers. SARC will create at least two pod casts- one in Spanish and one in Vietnamese.

Community Resource Development Plan (CRDP)

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has a statutory responsibility to ensure that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live in the least restrictive setting, appropriate to their needs. DDS designed the Community Placement Plan (CPP) and Community Resource Development Plan (CRDP) for regional centers to enhance the capacity of the community service delivery system and to reduce the reliance on the use of developmental center and other restrictive living environments.

National Core Indicator Information

The National Core Indicators (NCI) Survey gives individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families the opportunity to voluntarily and confidentially participate in surveys to share their experiences on access to and use of regional center and community services.

  • Survey responses help California learn how it is doing compared to other states.
  • Survey responses help the regional centers see what they are doing well and what they can improve.
